What’s a planting planner?
A planting planner is a tool to help growers know when to sow (indoors and outdoors), plant out and harvest their plants. They can include further information, but the key to a successful planner is striking the right balance between being informative and easy to use, just like the free one I’m offering here.
What’s included
The planner I’m giving you is the planner I’m using myself. It currently includes 42 plants including fruit, vegetables and flowering plants.
I’ve included the times of the year to sow indoors, sow outdoors, plant outdoors, harvest and, for flowering plants, when you can expect them to flower. I’ve also included som growing tips such as seed and plant separation distances.
I do plan to add further plants and information as time goes on. As I do, I’ll update the file here and Let you know on the ProjectLoungeUK Facebook page.
Until then, I’ve added plenty of extra lines for you to add your own crops.
How accurate is a planting planner?
All planting planners are just guides based on the climate and daylight hours of the country of intended use. The climate in the UK in particular can vary greatly and so success can never be guaranteed.
As a grower, you’ll have to decide when you believe the last frost has fallen (and it’s safe to plant outside), when it’s likely to be a warmer end to the winter, a longer summer etc. Therefore, there’s always an element of gamble.
A planting planner is a guide as to what you should be considering each month. It’s not likely to do your growing much harm by considering the previous and next month’s activities each month and making a judgement call.
Sounds great, where can I get it?
My planting planner document cna be downloaded here.
